Erasmus health insurance in Czechia: comparing PVZP and Maxima

Application conditions and current sources
The Czech official study-residence procedure publishes a 60-day processing limit. The clock does not run during a lawful suspension; this is not a guarantee of a decision within 60 calendar days. Application routes, document requirements and registration deadlines differ between a long-term visa, a residence permit and a D/VR entry visa. Keep proof of submission and comply with any written request for additional documents. A universal 30-day grace period must not be assumed.
You have done everything for the Czech visa, the visa confirmation message has come and now it is famous “The Insurance” You are in the health insurance stage. One of the most asked questions, "Which company should I buy from?", "What does Comprehensive mean?" we gathered the answers in a single post.
1. Is it necessary to take a visa date?
Let’s start with the biggest mistake: No is.
During the application: You don’t have to take a health insurance policy when you go to the date.
After the visa approval: When the Consulate tells you, "Your visa has been confirmed, come to get your passport," your visa will not be printed in the passport without giving the policy. So this is the last key you need to get the visa physically in your hands.
2. “Standard” or “Comprehensive”?
According to the Czech Ministry of Internal Affairs, Erasmus students “Complex/Comprehensive Health Care” Complex health insurance is required.
What to cover? It includes not only emergencies, it also routine checks, tooth pain and preventive health care services.
3. Which company to choose? The PVP vs. The Others)
At the heart of discussions in the group, there are usually two main options:
The company | The Advantage | Disadvantages |
PVZP | It is the largest in Czech Republic. It has agreements with almost all doctors and hospitals. The Consulate prefers that. | The price is a bit higher than the others. |
by Maxima / Slavia | It is more budget friendly. | The contractual hospital network is not as broad as PVZP; sometimes you may need to pay the fee first and then reimbursement. |
The gold advice: If your budget gives you, not to get stuck with bureaucratic barriers and not to get the answer "This insurance is not passing here" in hospitals PVZP It is the safest port.
4. The mistakes you should avoid when making insurance
Date of start: Your insurance start date must coincide with your visa start date or the day you enter Czech Republic.
The time: If you are going to a period of at least 5-6 months, and if you are going to a full year, you should do 12 months.
Buying online: Most students take the policy online and use the PDF output. However, some consulties may request a wet signature or a "originally suitable" sheet document. According to the current experience in the WhatsApp group, PDF output is usually accepted but still read carefully the Consulate's latest email.
5. What you need to do when the insurance is in your hands
Take your card: The insurance company gives you a digital or physical "Insurance Card". Always keep it in your wallet.
List the Doctors: Check whether your insurance is passed at the university hospital in the city you are going (Prag, Brno, Pilsen, etc.)
The ISIC is: Some insurance companies can offer special discounts to those who have the ISIC card, check the promotional codes before paying.
