Faroe Islands: Checking decision, card production and usable evidence when a student residence card is delayed

An approval shown online does not mean the physical residence card has been delivered. Case assessment, card production and collection are separate stages. Meanwhile, university registration, an employer check or travel may require different evidence. A delay enquiry should identify both the processing stage and the specific purpose for which evidence is needed.

Apply the local route to your case

Who should separately confirm acceptable temporary evidence for university, employment checks and travel while my residence card has not arrived? The Faroe Islands are outside EU free-movement rules. Official guidance distinguishes Nordic citizens from other nationalities; EU nationality alone does not establish long residence or employment permission. A Danish visa is not automatically a Faroese visa either. Check university admission, island entry permission and local residence separately with Útlendingastovan. Check entry, lawful stay while a decision is pending and cross-border travel separately. Tell the competent office your nationality, existing permission and actual teaching dates; university admission or an appointment confirmation does not replace the authority’s decision. Request a written document list for your own category.

  • Ask Útlendingastovan / Danish Immigration Service which permission route fits your passport and actual study category.
  • Submit the current evidence through the official channel before your lawful stay expires.
  • Keep the application receipt and separately verify permission to leave and re-enter.

Steps for this specific problem

  1. If the published response period has passed, send one concise status request with the case reference and practical deadline. Follow the official escalation or review route instead of opening repeated duplicate applications or assuming silence means approval.
  2. Confirm whether the recipient needs an original, certified copy, authentication or translation. Obtain the instruction applicable to your case before purchasing a document service, because one institution’s format may not satisfy another.
  3. Ask the university for an official record of credits, examination dates or the reason for delay. A student letter does not itself extend residence permission; separately confirm the evidence required by the competent immigration office.
  4. Describe whether the activity is employment, self-employment, a paid placement or a compulsory traineeship. Confirm the rule for that category and your own permission before signing; an employer’s willingness to hire does not establish work authorisation.
  5. Check the destination and every transit country’s rules as well as the carrier’s document checks. Do not treat a filing receipt or pending decision as a travel document; plan the route around the documents actually valid for your circumstances.
  6. Keep one dated record of submissions and replies. Redact unnecessary personal information when asking for help, and never give group members your passwords, payment credentials or uncontrolled copies of identity documents.

The linked procedure to check

The University of the Faroe Islands states Faroese proficiency is required for bachelor’s and master’s admission. Distinguish the summer language institute from degree admission; a short course is not a general language exemption. Plan university admission, academic recognition and professional licensing as separate checks. Obtain a written document list for your own qualification before paying for translations or an application. Check transcripts, name differences and the required prior study level early so that missing evidence does not derail your application. Track application submission separately from the recognition decision; where evidence is pending or admission conditional, file the institution’s written completion instructions and actual deadline.

A common decision point

Does an online approval replace the physical residence card for every purpose?

Do not assume universal acceptance. A decision, filing receipt and physical card may have different legal functions. Check your document with the university, authorised employment-check office and relevant travel authorities. If published processing time has passed, enquire using the existing reference rather than starting another application solely for production delay.

Requirements change. Before applying or paying, use the current call at the linked source and obtain the institution's written confirmation.
