Latvia: building evidence when exchange courses or placement credits are not recognised

Passing an exchange course or placement does not ensure identical recognition after returning home. Differences between the approved agreement, later amendments and final results make the documentary chain important when the home institution decides which learning outcomes and credits to recognise.

Apply the local route to your case

Which original approvals, amendments and final results should I submit together to challenge the recognition mismatch? In Latvia, the university admissions office sends education documents for recognition assessment. The Academic Information Centre evaluates comparability, while the institution decides enrolment. Completion of that assessment is not automatic admission; the university’s language and subject requirements still need to be satisfied. Map each document to its receiving authority, then confirm translations and intake instructions directly. Academic assessment alone is not an admission or immigration decision; clarify how any missing evidence must be supplied. Check the application and document record with the named office. If instructions conflict, request a written clarification referring to the current official page, and retain the answer in your file.

  • Match your qualification level and application record to the recognition route identified by Academic Information Centre / university admissions.
  • Ask the university about missing documents, offer conditions and submission deadlines using the same application number.
  • Confirm the receiving faculty’s accepted document format before paying for translations or authentication.

Steps for this specific problem

  1. Collect the final transcript or traineeship certificate, approved changes and evidence of completion. Ask the home institution which recognition decision and review procedure apply, and distinguish a missing document from a substantive credit-assessment disagreement.
  2. Compare the approved learning agreement with the courses actually available. Keep module descriptions, assessment rules and both institutions’ written approval of changes, rather than relying on a verbal understanding or a timetable screenshot alone.
  3. Ask the university for an official record of credits, examination dates or the reason for delay. A student letter does not itself extend residence permission; separately confirm the evidence required by the competent immigration office.
  4. Ask the responsible office to confirm your deadline and accepted correction channel in writing. Check the time zone, upload constraints and evidence of receipt instead of relying only on the date shown in a group message.
  5. If the published response period has passed, send one concise status request with the case reference and practical deadline. Follow the official escalation or review route instead of opening repeated duplicate applications or assuming silence means approval.
  6. Keep one dated record of submissions and replies. Redact unnecessary personal information when asking for help, and never give group members your passwords, payment credentials or uncontrolled copies of identity documents.

The linked procedure to check

University admission, entry permission and permission to remain are separate decisions. Keep a distinct document and validity date for each part of the file. In Latvia, the university participates in the PMLP/OCMA invitation process; match the invitation number to your application. Insurance, local medical evidence, card collection and address declaration are separate stages. Correct mismatches between the application number, passport and enrolment record before processing advances. When documents are missing, retain the exact official request; obtain an academic-calendar answer from the university and an immigration answer from the competent authority. An acknowledgement of submission is not automatically permission to travel or work.

A common decision point

Which original approvals, amendments and final results should I submit together to challenge the recognition mismatch?

Match the original and revised learning agreements with transcripts or placement evaluations using consistent course identifiers. Request written reasons for each unrecognised outcome, then check your institution’s review or appeal route and deadline rather than assuming that a coordinator’s informal comment settles the decision.

Requirements change. Before applying or paying, use the current call at the linked source and obtain the institution's written confirmation.
