Portugal: preserving application and payment evidence after a booking is cancelled or disappears

A cancelled appointment is not necessarily a closed application or an automatic refund. System notices, booking history and payment records can show different states; deleting an account or opening another before saving evidence can weaken the chain needed to trace what actually happened.

Apply the local route to your case

Did the cancellation affect only the appointment, or which application and payment processes remain officially open? Portugal’s current higher-education residence guidance is AIMA’s Article91 route. Admission, enrolment, applicable fees, subsistence and health coverage are considered together, with exceptions for specific approved institutions or scholarship categories. Do not substitute appointment instructions or permit durations from an old SEF page for the current AIMA procedure applicable to your case. Check entry, lawful stay while a decision is pending and cross-border travel separately. Tell the competent office your nationality, existing permission and actual teaching dates; university admission or an appointment confirmation does not replace the authority’s decision. Request a written document list for your own category.

  • Ask AIMA which permission route fits your passport and actual study category.
  • Submit the current evidence through the official channel before your lawful stay expires.
  • Keep the application receipt and separately verify permission to leave and re-enter.

Steps for this specific problem

  1. Save the booking reference, account email and completion screen. Use the official operator’s status or confirmation-recovery channel before opening another booking, and keep the response with the original record.
  2. Keep the payment receipt, transaction reference, currency and date together. Ask which student or application reference the institution uses to reconcile payments before assuming that another payment is necessary.
  3. Ask the responsible office to confirm your deadline and accepted correction channel in writing. Check the time zone, upload constraints and evidence of receipt instead of relying only on the date shown in a group message.
  4. Compare the exact Latin-script name, date of birth and passport number across the passport, portal record and offer. Use the official correction route for discrepancies rather than editing an issued document yourself.
  5. If the published response period has passed, send one concise status request with the case reference and practical deadline. Follow the official escalation or review route instead of opening repeated duplicate applications or assuming silence means approval.
  6. Keep one dated record of submissions and replies. Redact unnecessary personal information when asking for help, and never give group members your passwords, payment credentials or uncontrolled copies of identity documents.

The linked procedure to check

DGES distinguishes automatic, level and specific recognition for foreign higher education qualifications. The appropriate route depends on the qualification and purpose; these are not interchangeable recognition procedures. Match your qualification, target programme and document checklist in one application plan. Before paying for translations or authentication, obtain written confirmation from admissions of the required procedure; academic admission does not replace immigration permission or professional licensing. Track application submission separately from the recognition decision; where evidence is pending or admission conditional, file the institution’s written completion instructions and actual deadline.

A common decision point

Did the cancellation affect only the appointment, or which application and payment processes remain officially open?

Save the cancellation notice, original booking and payment reference and request clarification through official support. Confirm a replacement, transfer or refund route in writing; avoid contradictory accounts or another payment for the same purpose while the original record’s status remains unclear.

Requirements change. Before applying or paying, use the current call at the linked source and obtain the institution's written confirmation.
