An arrival room may not satisfy long-term housing or address-registration needs. If temporary accommodation ends before the new home is available, overlapping deposits and missing address evidence can disrupt both the budget and university or residence notifications during the move.

Apply the local route to your case

What backup covers accommodation, usable address evidence and moving costs when my temporary room ends? Slovenia’s housing guidance gives different channels for Ljubljana, Maribor and Primorska. Full-degree and exchange students may use different residence routes; in Primorska, the guidance directs these groups to different contacts. Plan the first week around campus registration, reliable accommodation and required formalities. Before paying a deposit, verify the contract, total costs and the landlord’s authority. Compare housing through its commute and access to student support, not through photographs alone. Before payment, verify the actual address, contracting party and cancellation terms; compare deposit, utilities and move-in dates in one budget rather than relying on the advertised rent.

  • Obtain a real room offer or contract through university student residence office; admission is not a room allocation.
  • Verify the payee, deposit return, utilities and complete address before transferring money.
  • Check how your address evidence is accepted by the residence authority and complete move-in registration.

Steps for this specific problem

  1. Ask the official accommodation service about waiting-list updates and realistic temporary options. Include cancellation terms and commuting costs in the backup budget, and do not present an unconfirmed place as guaranteed accommodation.
  2. Record rent, deposit, utilities, notice periods and the move-in date separately. Ask the contracting party which charges can change and which evidence is needed for a refund, rather than treating an advertised monthly figure as the entire cost.
  3. Ask both the university and the competent residence or municipal office how an address change must be reported. Updating one account may leave other records unchanged, so keep confirmation from each office that needs the new address.
  4. Verify the address, the party entitled to let the property and the written contract. An urgent request from a stranger is not evidence of legitimacy; ask the official student accommodation service about alternatives before sending a deposit.
  5. Keep a dated inventory, agreed meter readings, photographs and handover records together. Obtain written confirmation of key return and the address for deposit correspondence so that a later dispute can be tied to concrete records.
  6. Keep one dated record of submissions and replies. Redact unnecessary personal information when asking for help, and never give group members your passwords, payment credentials or uncontrolled copies of identity documents.

The linked procedure to check

Slovenia generally routes a first non-EU study-residence application through a consulate; specified applicants already lawfully present may apply at the Upravna enota administrative unit. Prepare enrolment, health cover and resources for the actual category. A certificate of timely application can protect domestic stay, but re-entry must be checked separately. A residence card from another Schengen country is not automatically a Slovenian study permit. Check entry, lawful stay while a decision is pending and cross-border travel separately. Tell the competent office your nationality, existing permission and actual teaching dates; university admission or an appointment confirmation does not replace the authority’s decision. Request a written document list for your own category.

A common decision point

What backup covers accommodation, usable address evidence and moving costs when my temporary room ends?

Confirm the handover date and available registration documents in writing, and budget separately for the transition. Check which institutions need an address update and when; do not cancel a verified safe option prematurely because an unconfirmed replacement appears promising.

Requirements change. Before applying or paying, use the current call at the linked source and obtain the institution's written confirmation.
