Bosnia & Herzegovina: assessing safe options when a landlord will not provide a contract or address evidence

Actually occupying a room is not the same as holding accepted address-registration evidence. A landlord refusing an agreement or required confirmation can disrupt university, banking or residence procedures; an advertisement saying registration is possible does not prove that the necessary documents will be available.

Apply the local route to your case

Which document and competent-office confirmation establish that this accommodation can support the address registration I need? Cross-check Sarajevo's official student guidance with the actual housing provider. The city guide describes Bjelave and Nedžarići student centres, while the international office warns incoming students not to expect university-provided dormitory accommodation. ESN or a buddy can help with the search without allocating a bed. Choose a location around your faculty and transport, and obtain written rental terms and any required accommodation statement from the landlord. Check the application and document record with the named office. If instructions conflict, request a written clarification referring to the current official page, and retain the answer in your file.

  • Track the room application separately from admission with UNSA International Relations Office; ask for a written allocation.
  • Verify the landlord’s authority, contractual address and every additional charge before transferring money.
  • Establish who will issue the landlord or dormitory evidence required for address registration.

Steps for this specific problem

  1. Record rent, deposit, utilities, notice periods and the move-in date separately. Ask the contracting party which charges can change and which evidence is needed for a refund, rather than treating an advertised monthly figure as the entire cost.
  2. Ask both the university and the competent residence or municipal office how an address change must be reported. Updating one account may leave other records unchanged, so keep confirmation from each office that needs the new address.
  3. Verify the address, the party entitled to let the property and the written contract. An urgent request from a stranger is not evidence of legitimacy; ask the official student accommodation service about alternatives before sending a deposit.
  4. Keep a dated inventory, agreed meter readings, photographs and handover records together. Obtain written confirmation of key return and the address for deposit correspondence so that a later dispute can be tied to concrete records.
  5. Ask the official accommodation service about waiting-list updates and realistic temporary options. Include cancellation terms and commuting costs in the backup budget, and do not present an unconfirmed place as guaranteed accommodation.
  6. Keep one dated record of submissions and replies. Redact unnecessary personal information when asking for help, and never give group members your passwords, payment credentials or uncontrolled copies of identity documents.

The linked procedure to check

University admission, entry permission and permission to remain are separate decisions. Keep a distinct document and validity date for each part of the file. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the landlord’s verified accommodation statement, white-card registration and SPS student-residence file are linked. Foreign documents can require court-certified translation into an official language. Correct mismatches between the application number, passport and enrolment record before processing advances. When documents are missing, retain the exact official request; obtain an academic-calendar answer from the university and an immigration answer from the competent authority. An acknowledgement of submission is not automatically permission to travel or work.

A common decision point

Which document and competent-office confirmation establish that this accommodation can support the address registration I need?

Ask the relevant institution which address evidence is accepted and obtain the landlord’s proposed wording in writing. Compare contract and registration terms before paying; if documents cannot be provided, consider verified alternatives rather than inventing an address or using false evidence to bypass the problem.

Requirements change. Before applying or paying, use the current call at the linked source and obtain the institution's written confirmation.
